A perfume housethat keeps late hours.
Scents Central began as a stall of hand-labelled oils in a Westlands arcade. Today we compose original perfumes in Nairobi, for the people who wear them out at night.
The memory
Every perfume begins with a place.
Kilima started on a cold morning in Kericho. Pwani came from a dhow trip out of Kilifi. Before we choose a single material we write down the moment: the hour, the weather, who was there. Then we spend months trying to bottle it.
The studio
Small batches, slow hands.
We blend in our Westlands studio, in batches of no more than two hundred bottles. Each one rests for six weeks before it is filtered and filled, because the materials need time to settle into each other. It cannot be rushed, and we don’t try.
The wearer
Made for this climate.
Perfume behaves differently at 1,795 metres and 28 degrees. Heat lifts the top notes, so we build stronger hearts and deeper bases that hold through a Nairobi day and into the night, without shouting in a lift.
